Panajachel, or Pana for short, is a municipality in the department of Solola, Guatemala. It is located on the shore of Lake Atitlan, which is why it has become a central hub for the tourist trade. Although Panajachel’s economy depends on tourism, there is also a significant population of Mayan natives living there. The people of Panajachel are known for their friendly nature and the scenery of Pana is quite picturesque. It sits 5,238 ft. above sea level alongside Lake Atitlan with three volcanoes surrounding it. The Mayan word “Atitlan” means “the place where the rainbow gets its colors.”
